Dental Implants in Abilene TX - Abilene Advanced Dentistry
Dr. Jason Alexander knows the value of a healthy smile, working with his patients to help them maintain their own. However, despite the best efforts of both the doctor and the patient, teeth may be lost to decay, oral injury, or other situations. To restore the smiles of his patients, Dr. Alexander can both place and restore dental implants. Abilene Advanced Dentistry provides dental implants to the communities of Abilene, Brownwood, Eastland, and the surrounding areas.
Placing Your Implants
The first step in helping you receive your dental implants is to have the implant post surgically placed into your jaw. This step is critical to the success of the dental implant, as the implant post – that is, the artificial tooth root – grants the implant its strength. Dr. Alexander can place these implants by using digital x-rays to create a perfect guide for the implant surgery.
The reason the implant post makes a strong, effective base for the dental implant is a process called osseointegration. The implant post is made of titanium, which has a unique property that allows it to fuse to the bone. Once the titanium post is surgically placed into the jaw, it integrates into the jaw over a set period of time. After the site of surgery has healed and the osseointegration process is complete, you will be ready for the rest of the dental implant.
What are Dental Implant Restorations?
Just as the dental implant post is the artificial tooth root, your dental implant restoration is the visible tooth. Because of this, these restorations need to be both beautiful and strong enough to withstand the daily stress of chewing. Our Abilene dentist meets these goals by having the implant restorations made out of dental porcelain. This material not only looks and feels like a natural, white tooth, but it functions as well as a healthy tooth for chewing, especially when supported by an implant post.
Which restoration you receive is dependent on how many teeth need to be replaced and how many implant posts have been placed. A porcelain crown and an individual post can replace an individual tooth. Multiple missing teeth may require a fixed porcelain bridge, which can be supported by two or more dental implants. If a significant amount of teeth are missing, up to a full arch, then four to six implants may be used to host implant supported full or partial dentures.
